Saturday 14/04/2012 Battlebridge - Drumshanbo - Cleighran More
Length of boat trip: 4 hours
Motto of the day: Lough Allen welcomes us
We get up late this morning and start about 11 am. We enjoy a slow drive on the sunny canal. After passing the narrow footbridge we reach Drumleague Lock where Paddy Joe awaits us. We go on and Slieve Anierin; Sliabh an Iarainn comes into view. We reach the lock at Drumshanbo and moor for a break below at the jetty.
Later in the afternoon we start to explore Lough Allen. We are the only boat on the lake and are impressed by the panoramic views of the mountains and hills around the lake!
We first have a look at the jetty at Cleighran More and then drive on to the End of Navigation at the northern end.
The water level is with 2.08 m (Drumshanbo Lock) very low at the moment so we decide to end our exploring here. We drive to the western shore. Spencer Harbour is usually more sheltered than the jetty on the eastern shore but exposed to the wind from NE.
