Tuesday 20/04/10 Garrykennedy - Mountshannon - Ballina
Length of boat trip: 3 hours
Motto of the day: On the southern Lough Derg
Today we drive at slow speed to Mountshannon and later in the afternoon to Ballina.
The jetty at Ballina below the bridge and the new jetty on the Killaloe side are closed. So we stay overnight at the quay in front of Flanagan's. Wendy and Brian come along for a first hello.
Wednesday 21/04/10 Ballina - Limerick
Length of boat trip: 5 hours
Motto of the day: The impressive Ardnacrusha Lock and on swirling waters
We start early in the first daylight before sunrise and go through the bridge and navigate further down the Shannon on the Killaloe - Limerick navigation. This is not allowed for hire boats! But we have exceptional permission from Silverline Cruisers and the boat is additionally insured for tidal waters. The trip to Limerick was well planned and planning started with a small boat visit to Ardnacrusha a year ago.
On the lower lake the sun rises with warm colours. Parteen Weir lies ahead. We moor at the pontoon and lift the gate. After going through we start the new automatic mechanism for closing.
